High Bay Applications - Energy Savings

With advances in fluorescent lamp, fixture, and reflector design, fluorescent luminaries can now address high bay lighting applications which have traditionally been the domain of HID lamps.

Consider a 10,000 sq ft. warehouse with 30' ceilings which would require 200 fixtures (10' aisle, fixture every 20' ft). Let's assume no skylighting and operating hrs of 16 hrs/day, 5 days/wk.

An HID solution will require a 455W fixture with no dimming and no on/off control (during operating hrs.) as the restrike time is between 12-15 min. to allow the fixture to cool down.

Let's look at the possibilities for dimming and controlling the lights using the Easylite ILS:

• First, warehouse aisle are typically empty, in fact most time/motion studies indicate aisle utilization in warehouses is 22%
• The Easylite ILS can control the lighting per utilization with aisle mounted occupancy sensors
• With dimming capability the lights can be turned off when the aisle are unoccupied or can maintain a 10% ambient light level
  

In addition, using a fluorescent fixture will significantly reduce the fixture wattage, such as using a 6 lamp, T-5 HO (330 W).
